[The screen flickers on to show a sunny blue sky framed by the branches of trees. On occasion a bird or two or a flock of them fly past, but there is no sign of the boy who owns the Pokégear. In the corner of the screen, something orange flits in and out of view before there is the sound of panting and bounding feet, followed by--]

Ugh. [--the sound of someone groaning, as if something heavy had been dropped on his stomach. The screen turns blurry, as if the Pokégear was being shaken around. The sound of struggling and excited barks could be heard.] Stop, you silly dog, stop, you can't use this-- this contraption as a toy! .....No, you can't chew on my bowtie either but-- ugh, fine you can lick my face. [There is a soft sigh as the screen stops moving. It moves again as the happy-looking face of a young Growlithe comes into view, then, finally the camera swerves again to show the slightly disgruntled, slobber-covered face of a young boy lying on the grass. So that's where he was!]

.....My name is Miles Edgeworth. [The boy seems absolutely squicked out - apparently he's never talked to electronics before. The Growlithe, on the other hand, looks nothing less than deliriously happy as it sits by the boy's head and smiles up at the camera.] I woke up... this morning and found myself in a house that wasn't mine, with a woman that wasn't my mother -- and then I got kicked out. I'm not sure how this happened, or what will happen from now on, but... [Miles averts his eyes momentarily, then turns his head as if staring at the sky and the trees, glancing at the Growlithe before turning back to the camera.] I think the best choice I could make now is to keep moving along down the road. Perhaps I'll meet someone who can give me some hints on.. what's going on. -- ugh. Stop that! [There is a beep, as if Miles had pressed a button, and the screen goes blank, but not before it catches the Growlithe finding a small butterfly on Miles' shirt and pouncing at it.]

[Pess suddenly appears on the screen and barks at Phoenix before disappearing and settling on Miles' lap, as can be inferred from her tail swishing indignantly under Miles' chin.

Maybe she was trying to say that she could protect just fine. The world may never know.]

[After Pess settles down, Miles' face reappears and -- hm. He seems a bit bothered by the notion of traveling with someone in a possibly dangerous place.]

--!! Hello there, er...that's a Growlithe, right? Have you named it, Edgewo--Miles? [...boy, this is going to take some getting used to.]

.....Edgeworth is fine, you know. You seem to be struggling with it.

Her name is Pess.

...well, I'm used to calling you "Edgeworth." But... [To Phoenix, it just seems weird calling a kid by their last name.]

[--and as if on cue, Butch's blue, Quagsire face rears up into the camera, sounding off a hearty "Quuuaaagiire!" and nearly shoving Phoenix out of the camera's view completely.] Butch, quit that--

[And Miles is used to "Edgeworth" because his 4th grade friends neeeever called him by his given name lmao hmmmm]

Hm? What is that Pokémon-- Oh, what. Pess, do you want to see him as well?

[Miles apparently spoils Pess, or he just doesn't want her tearing his pants. He allows Pess to peer at the screen and start barking at the Quagshire.Over the ruckus, his voice could barely be heard--[

W-what's his name, Mr. Wright?

[--actually, I thought Phoenix called him Miles when they were in fourth grade? And Larry called (calls) him Edgey. In english, that is. Language differences maybe?

And at the barking of Pess, Butch only proceeds to bark(?) louder in return, creating quite the din.] His name i--Butch, seriously, settle down--his name is Butch. Like the bulldog my family had when I was little. [A pause.

[...well, he had to convince Miles somehow, right?] Remember him? Big, black, and...slobbery? [/headcanon go!]

[....I don't know, actually -- they never called each by their names in the Japanese games so AHAHA /deardearcanon what

Pess looks as if she's about to bark back before Miles stops her by tugging on the ribbon he tied around her neck! She promptly shuts up and moves out of the way.]

Butch, you say? I... think I remember.

[I always pictured them as being on first name terms -- Miles and Phoenix, at least. Maybe not so much Larry. and AHAHAAH oh, Dear Dear.

--and oh, does he look hopeful for a second? I think he does!] Yeah. He'd always try and sit on your lap, but you'd freak out and push him off. _{He really liked you, though.}
