[ Today's is a rare intentional post! Though he doesn't talk immediately. He frowns at the camera for a few seconds, then sighs. ]

Challenging the Goldenrod gym was a bit of a nightmare when it happened. The gym leader in Violet was less...unique... and I guess I'm glad he didn't to put me in a dress, but I take back my words from when I said to someone that a gym leader qualifies if they do their job right.

[ He reaches for something placed next to the gear, and--voila! Guess who won the Zephyr badge just a short while ago? He looks at it, then looks even more disgruntled. Forced into a dress, fake bottomless pits, self-confidence issues and the threat of being Earthquake'd.

And then there had been Falkner.

... Siiiigh. ]

It would be hypocritical of me to say that all he talked about was his father, I suppose.

[ beat. ]

On a different note, in less than a month I'd have been in this world for a year. I've been to a lot of cities, but the only school I've seen teaches only on topics related to Pokémon. How do the people here learn anything else?

[Well, Clover was not in a very good mood then.

Anyway, have an arm around your shoulder. Clover is also wearing her Zephyr badge, although on her jacket collar. She's way too proud to keep it in her pocket for too long.]

Congrats. On the badge, and on the Johto-versary, I guess. We should do something.

[ He pats her hand. ] It's in a month. It's not that big of a deal either.

[ BESIDES THAT October fourth is not a very happy date for the last one-thirds of their shota-loli party, and Miles does not want to put any extra emphasis on it. ]

Then I'll treat you two to dinner when your Johto-versary rolls around.

[She sounds very sincere. And she can probably tell that shotas probably wouldn't want big crazy parties. Besides, Clover is not in a party-plotting mood.]

[ He shakes his head. ] I appreciate it, but I'd rather keep that day quiet. I don't think Ken would be in the mood, either.

[Clover takes back her arm.]

Ken? Why not? D-did something happen to him?

[Suddenly, she remembers his nightmare...she had been in it...was that it?]

[ He glances around. No other shota? No other shota. Okay. ]

October fourth is the day his mother died, in his world. Some other things have happened on that day, too--I don't want to disturb him if he wants a quiet day.

...oh. I see. [Clover's face falls.]

[And more to herself, but since only one shota and loli are around, shota can overhear:] So it was real...

[ He knows Clover fell asleep during the Shedninja attack, and that Ken did as well, and that people who fell asleep went through strange dreams. He's good at putting those together. ]

It's a bad day. We can wait until Christmastime, I think.

[But of course, what Miles doesn't know is that while Clover managed to enter Ken's dream, Ken never saw hers - or so she believed. Only Bakura and Santa had found it. In her honest opinion, it was better that Ken (or Miles, for that matter), never saw her nightmare...or what had happened to her there.]

I still wanna do something anyway. For...both of you. You know...as thanks.

[ Nightmares are best kept to themselves, after all. ]

Deal. Tell you what, dinner's still on me. And I'm not taking no for an answer.

Good. [Furret reaches out, trying to grab Clover's badge. She plucks him from her shoulders and sets him down on her lap. FISSION MAILED.]

You must be some sorta child prodigy. I mean, you're like, eleven? And you're already studying law!

Only bits and pieces. My teacher told me I should familiarize myself with it early so I'd learn faster.

Still! Lots of people don't even start till they've finished their college degree, at least!

...speaking of college degrees, I just wanna get high school over with. [She pouts.] Too bad my plans are gonna have to be put on hold while I'm here.

Well, I'm never going to college. Or middle school or high school, for that matter. But you'll be able to resume school when you get back.

You're going straight to law school? Is that even legal?

The laws of my world are... strange. My mentor just said that I'll get better education from my tutors than if I go to some "mediocre school".

Law homeschooling, huh...

Your mentor must've paid good money for those tutors.

[ He nods. ]

[She shrugs.]

Geez, I could be in college by now! I'm sick of learning things I probably won't even need when I start my degree!

I think it's still very important to go to school.

Says the kid who's goin' straight to law.

[ He shakes his head. ] Ah, well, I don't really have a choice.
