[The feed turns on early on Monday morning, and hey - it's Miles. He hasn't been posting anything much the past couple of weeks, has he been? He... appears to be aware that the Gear is on, but he's not looking at it at the moment. Instead, there's Remus, his Plusle, wrapped snugly in the ends of his blue scarf, waving cheerfully at the camera.

And then you'd notice that he's... sitting somewhere rather high up. In fact, why does the city seem like it's so far away?

---Oh. Right. It's because he's sitting on the roof of the Goldenrod Hotel.]

[He stares out at the dawning city for a few seconds before, without turning to actually look at the camera, he addresses it.]

It's already been ten days since the New Year, but I was wondering... what year is it here, at least according to the Christian calendar?

[He then turns to finally look at the camera, and that's when you'd notice that he looks - as usual - tired and... perhaps sadder than usual? This weekend had been very tiring for him and his friends, after all. He was still sick, that fever was persistent... and he probably should be resting, but he had to get out at one point. Which was why he's here, seated on the edge of the rooftop, looking out at the city.

He gives the camera a small smile.]

What year was everyone born in, by the way? My birthday was in 1992, but I suppose there are a lot of people from different times here in Johto.

[And he blinks a couple times, yawns, and with a muttered "maybe I should sleep" he reaches over and turns off the video.]

I know I should have contacted you earlier, Phoenix, and I'm sorry, but... I'm all right. I'm with Merlin right now, and Ken.



...Perhaps you've heard from Ken already, but I promised I'd contact you when he woke up. He's fine now, Mr. Shinjiro.

[Miles suddenly gets the feeling he must have said something really terrible and will guilt trip forever.]

No, don't apologize. You were sick and upset, and that makes even the most happy people say things they don't mean. If anything, I'm relieved! I'm glad it wasn't really you talking. Just the fever.

Well, we actually sorta got into a fight. About... well, about the difference between responsibility, obligation and recklessness.

I'm glad you can see that now. I shouldn't have yelled at you, though. I should have known it was just the fever speaking.

Yeah, I wouldn't say they're the same thing, as the situation was very different. Though I can understand your hesitancy to just brush it off.

It's good to want to take responsibility, but if you only dwell on the past you can't move forward. The point is to learn from your past, and do your best to not let things like that happen again. And also not to blame yourself when the circumstances are out of your control.

....I'd given up.

Nothing I do can change my past, and no matter what I do, my father won't come back. It was all out of my control, and I couldn't even do anything to fix it, because even if I wanted to find the real killer there wasn't enough evidence to prove it.

Before I came here... I was just sick of everything. My mother was sending me to Germany, too, and I'd left my friends without even a good bye. I was ready to just let everything throw me where it wanted, but then--

...then I came here.

... And that's it then.

I made a promise to my friend that I would try to make things right. There are things that I found out here that can help me..

And after that. I'll probably try to come back here.

It sounds like you're taking the right steps. But what do you mean, try to come back here?

Back in L.A., the only thing left for me, really, is to catch that person.. I have more to stay for here than I do going home..
