miniworth: (Do you really think so?)

016 [Video | Texts | Action for Goldenrod]

[The feed turns on early on Monday morning, and hey - it's Miles. He hasn't been posting anything much the past couple of weeks, has he been? He... appears to be aware that the Gear is on, but he's not looking at it at the moment. Instead, there's Remus, his Plusle, wrapped snugly in the ends of his blue scarf, waving cheerfully at the camera.

And then you'd notice that he's... sitting somewhere rather high up. In fact, why does the city seem like it's so far away?

---Oh. Right. It's because he's sitting on the roof of the Goldenrod Hotel.]

[He stares out at the dawning city for a few seconds before, without turning to actually look at the camera, he addresses it.]

It's already been ten days since the New Year, but I was wondering... what year is it here, at least according to the Christian calendar?

[He then turns to finally look at the camera, and that's when you'd notice that he looks - as usual - tired and... perhaps sadder than usual? This weekend had been very tiring for him and his friends, after all. He was still sick, that fever was persistent... and he probably should be resting, but he had to get out at one point. Which was why he's here, seated on the edge of the rooftop, looking out at the city.

He gives the camera a small smile.]

What year was everyone born in, by the way? My birthday was in 1992, but I suppose there are a lot of people from different times here in Johto.

[And he blinks a couple times, yawns, and with a muttered "maybe I should sleep" he reaches over and turns off the video.]

I know I should have contacted you earlier, Phoenix, and I'm sorry, but... I'm all right. I'm with Merlin right now, and Ken.

...Perhaps you've heard from Ken already, but I promised I'd contact you when he woke up. He's fine now, Mr. Shinjiro.

I'm not saying you shouldn't try.

I'm just saying... stop blaming yourself.

It'll bog you down. Make it harder. And most of all, it'll distract from who's REALLY at fault.

[She hadn't allowed her own guilty conscience to stop her from going after Claudia.]

Just because it can't drag you lower doesn't mean you should let it drag you down at all.

... Just... take my word for it, kid.

... It ... can mean the difference between life and death sometimes.

[And if anyone would know about life and death, it's her.]

[She nods, although she's trailed off into a thoughtful silence. Almost thought of telling Miles that if he could remember, he could send a phone call in the general direction of Maine if he ever needed help... if they were from the same world, anyway.]

[But then, she'd be... what, twelve? Fourteen?]

[So the thought died before she even spoke it.]

[To be fair, Phoenix was kind of an open book.]

I live over on the east coast-- Maine.

[She smiles a little bit.]

In m time, you'd be about ... sixteen.

In yours, I'm probably ... I dunno. Eleven? Twelve?

But hey, I could write my address down.

Yeah. Me too.

[Edgeworth sure would make a better friend than the ones she was headed for once she started getting into that rebellious phase.]

... I'm sure my dad'd think it'd be a good experience for me to have a pen-pal in a foreign country.

Me? Naaahhh.

When I was that age? I wasn't scared of anything.

Eh... at that age, I'd probably be all 'Cool, time travel!'

[That had been an innocent time.]

[Yeah... so did Heather, on occasion. But what was done, was done. The most she could do now was make up for lost time however she could.]

Yeah...

Maybe you could get Phoenix and Larry in on it, too.

You guys'd make better friends than the ones I wound up with.

[It wasn't even that she hadn't had decent friends as a kid, either-- she still remembered them. But as so often happened with growing up, they'd grown apart and she'd gone for a bitchier, less responsible crowd. Wouldn't you know.]

... What was he like, as a kid?

Was he still stuffy and anti-fun?

[Somehow she just can't imagine an itty-bitty Phoenix. Even if she met him during that weirdass weekend.]

[... IS IT BAD THAT HEATHER CAN EASILY IMAGINE LITTLE!PHOENIX CRYING HIS FACE OFF? PROBABLY.]

... Awh.

... Yeah... life kinda does that.

He needs to lighten up, though.
foolishwren: what doesn't kill you gives you a lot of unhealthy coping mechanisms and a really dark sense of humor (well you know what they say...)

[personal profile] foolishwren 2011-01-16 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
... That, I can agree with. Older-you was stuffy and frowny.

[With a smirk, she reaches over to ruffle his hair again.]

If you go back and remember everything that happened here, try to grow up into somebody who smiles every so often, okay?

'Fraid I only talked to him a couple times... Didn't get to know him that well at all.
