[The feed turns on this fine Tuesday afternoon from a Gear that hasn't posted in quite a while. The camera adjusts, focuses, and then shows a disgruntled looking child sitting - legs crossed, leaning back in the chair, with a serious line face - at a table in what looks like the café at the Goldenrod Hotel. A newspaper held in one hand, the other holding....

.....a cup of tea. That he drinks out of.

Good afternoon, residents of Johto, Miles Edgeworth has woken up ~~and he snuck out of the Pokémon Center last night, too, but that's another story~~.]

[The sudden voice is accompanied by the invasion of Remus the Plusle, who hops onto his trainer's lap and takes the cup of tea from him, sitting down and cheerily gulping down the warm drink. His moody expression brightening slightly into that of amusement, Miles gives a soft chuckle and lowers the paper, turning his full attention to the Gear that Remus must have turned on earlier.

First, he sighs. And then he glares at the camera.]

Franziska von Karma.

[Oh boy, is he pissed.]

Upon my waking up just last night, I was informed of your ill-mannered conduct upon your arrival in Johto. You acted rudely and immaturely, and - surely - as one who aspires to succeed that perfect Manfred von Karma, being able to civilly interact with those you meet would be an important skill?

First of all, I have done nothing to be called a coward by you.

Secondly, yelling my name into the network was an over-the-top, yet sufficient way of getting in contact with me. However, I was indeed asleep for the last few days, and refusing to believe the tale when told so was foolish of you. Proceeding then to snap at these people and antagonizing them is even worse.

[A pause, as he takes a breath and rubs his temple.]

As your older brother, and the reason why you ended up acting so disrespectfully to those who simply wanted to help you, I suggest that you rethink your actions carefully and apologize to them soon. Your father stressed the importance of perfection in every aspect of life - and if you are still aspring to fulfill that perfection, it would do you good to start by acting, at least, like you know how to speak without angering every face you see.

[Another pause, and then he looks away from the camera looking a bit squicked out.]

... I don't think I'll ever perfect imitating Mr. von Karma's way of talking.

[He reaches over to drink the tea, but the cup must have been emptied by Remus. He stops, sighs, and sends the camera another look.]

I'll be waiting for your call, Fran. That is all.

... I hope you're doing all right.

[Cujo springs to his feet once Pess starts to leave and goes trotting after her, naturally. Heather just yanks her collar tightly around her neck once they step out into the wind.]}

Yeah, well, Maine's not exactly snow-free either... worse than here, I'd guess.

But yeah, you probably did. I'd usually zonk out there with coffee for at least an hour every time my shift ended.

[Pess sticks close to Miles, towering over him and generally acting like some sort of umbrella for him as he trots alongside Heather, though he stumbles occasionally because sleeping for nine days generally does equals plus one clumsy points.]

Yeah. Kinda getting sick of it, though.

_{[... She was kind of considering leaving town.]}

You've been working there for a while, haven't you?

Yeah... ever since I got into the city, actually.

I only worked at the Pokémon Center during December before.. things came up. [Speaking of things. Perhaps he should go back there, again.]

I was sick of mooching off of other people.

_{[Heather had never led the most honest of lives, but even when she'd been in the most obtuse and belligerent of her high-school years, she'd still worked for her own money.]

[It felt weird to be codependent on people.]}

But I've got more than enough to last me awhile, now.

I think that's the main reason most of us start working. That was why I did, as well..

[Even though that ended with Miles being the one to buy their groceries most of the time, since Phoenix was bad with extreme weather.]

[Heather's last statement, though, makes him perk up.]

Are you planning on leaving?

_{[She pauses at that.]}

.... I'm thinking about it.

_{[There's another pause as a particularly vicious gust of wind whips up, making her lift a hand to shield from the icy sleet.]}

... Someone ... very important to me just showed up in Johto, and...

_{[Miles hadn't been there when Heather had come to Phoenix's door on that dark and snowy night, but he'd probably seen some of the aftermath. It wasn't necessarily hard to put two and two together.]}

[Miles lists a hand against the wind as well, shaking rain out of his eyes as he looks up at Heather.]

If they're important to you, then you should go. [He offers a smile.]

It's nice when there's someone you know, here. I was glad when Phoenix went back to Cherrygrove when I first came here.

Yeah. I think I will.

... I regretted not really doin' that last time.

_{[She had never met Cybil before-- not formally. But that policewoman was the only person she had ever heard her father refer to as 'friend'. ... She wanted to see her.]}

I've got some stuff I still have to take care of first, though, so I'm not outta your hair just yet.

_{[They had finally arrived at the entrance to the little cafe and Heather shoulder her way in through the door, shaking the water from her hair like a dog.]}

[Miles recalls Pess before they enter, and he follows Heather inside, brushing his hair out of his face as he does.]

We wouldn't want you to do something you regret. Phoenix would be sad if you got hurt again, as well.

_{[BWUH-OH, that's right, he knew about that.]

[Her expression softens a bit.]}

Don't worry.

I don't plan on it.

_{[She wouldn't let that happen again.]

[She doesn't recall Cujo at first, but when one of the people behind the counter shoots her a stern look, she remembers and hastily does so.]}

Why don't you go pick out a table? I'll order.

[He nods.]

You and I both, Heather. [He's still got some scars on his hands from when he pulled that grave-digging stunt. He looks around the café and, spotting a table in the corner, nods again.]

I'll be over there.

_{[Aw, Miles. :( THINGS WILL GET BETTER.]

[Heather gives him a thumbs-up and then heads over to the counter to order a couple of hot chocolates, STAT.]}

[Things are already looking up now that he's back in Johto and away from insane German foster families. :|b ]

[And Miles goes off to seat himself down at aforementioned table in the corner.]

_{[A few minutes later, Heather comes back with two steaming mugs of hot chocolate, each with a little furl of whipped cream on the top.]}

Here you go.

Bet you didn't get anything this good with that Karma guy!

Von Karma, Heather. [But he laughs a little at that anyway.]

My tutor gave me chocolate often, but - no, not hot chocolate.

Psh, Karma, von Karma, same difference.

_{[She slides into a seat, herself, and starts to sip the whipped cream off the top of hers.]}

Anyway, you can't beat hot chocolate.

I'm telling you just in case you run into my sister. I don't think she'd appreciate you saying her name wrong.

[He's drinking that hot chocolate like the deprived child that he is and he might burn his tongue but fhsdkjfh it tastes so good.]

Oh, right, right.

_{[Little did either of them know, Heather had spoken to Franziska already-- quite some time ago. She'd been more than a little pretentious, but weirdly enough? They kinda got along! ... Of course, that might be entirely different this time around...]}

... Whoa, slow down! You don't wanna scald the top of your mouth off!

[Aaaaand he's putting that mug down and HAND TO MOUTH because ow ow ow it was really hot.]

I-I'm okay..

_{[She can't help but laugh, man.]}

I promise, nobody's gonna drink it before you if you let it cool down a bit!

But it tastes really good..

_{[She grins broadly at him. It's good to see him enjoying himself. Even if he did totally just scald the hell out of his mouth.]}

It'll taste even better when you can actually sense tastes besides 'oh god it burns'.
