[ July 14. 10:34 A.M. ]

[ The phenomenon of Pokémon appearing in his PC was something Miles was growing used to. Finding a Rapidash among his Pokémon when he went to switch out his party, he realized, was no longer the mystery it was when he first learned about the Eevee that Elizabeth Middleford found months ago, though it never came without surprise.

He was most shocked when he discovered who the Rapidash had originally belonged to.

It was in small text in the information box as he scanned the computer, cramped in with all of the Pokémon's statistics and skills: the familiar name of a person Miles had grown close to and fond of. Her name, attached to a creature whose appearance told of the disappearance of its original trainer more often than it did not, triggered Miles' stomach to sink.

He'd returned one of his Pokémon already, but he shuts off the machine without remembering to take one out. Silent, but with Pess and Pip following at his heels, he steps out of the Pokémon Center as if in a trance. His eyes are glued to the ground; he doesn't look up until he finds himself seated on a bench by the seaside, Pip hopping onto his lap and Pess lying down to wait for her trainer as well as to laze in the sun.

Still without a word, he pulls his gear out of his pocket, dialing Franziska von Karma's number. ]

The number you have dialed is no longer in service. Please hang up and try again.

[ Rinse and repeat, over and over until he's interrupted by Pip's excited barking, tiny paws scrambling across his lap and jumping off the bench. Pess follows her pup to the cluster of bushes near the bench, and Miles leaps to his feet to hurry after the Growlithe as well. ]

Pip, what are you--? [ But the rest of that questions falls into silence when he reaches the bushes and sees what is there. ]

[ July 14. 1:13 P.M. ]

[ The audio message reaches the network in the early afternoon, a short, quiet transmission from that bench by the sea. ]

I think there was a number of people she spoke to while she stayed here, so this is a message to anybody who knew her: Franziska von Karma has returned to her world.

[ He doesn't like it. He's scared for her. He's going to miss her and he already misses her. She was family. They were closer here than he was with the younger Franziska back home. It was like losing Gregory all over again. Somehow it hurt more than anybody else whose disappearance he learned of.

He'd been out here for hours now, but he feels no motivation to get up and return to the hotel as of yet. Anybody who comes looking for him, or passes by, will find a grey-haired boy sitting against the railing, his back to the sea, with Pess, Pip, and another, bigger Growlithe--Sirius, the second Pokémon Miles met during his whole time in Johto, and Pip's father--all sitting around him. ]

[DO IT. Auste, on the other hand, is a very salty pirate with zero bucks in her pocket. Adultworth only has paid and tons of icons because of very very kind people.]

Who knows, we could run into each other! [She shrugs. The balance is currently in favor of bubbly happy Clover. MAKE THE MOST OUT OF THIS BEFORE SHE STARTS TELLING YOU OFF AGAIN.] And right now, I'm training my team before we face the Violet City gym leader.

[A shake of the head.]

I've only got Light, my Budew, Striper the Furret, and Jackie Spearow. [I'LL NEVER LIVE THIS DOWN.]

Squalo told me to keep an eye out for eggs on the network, but I think I almost always miss 'em. Or other people beat me to 'em.

[This is clearly the best way to cope. LET'S TALK ABOUT SOMETHING ELSE NOW THAT YOU'RE OKAY.]

I really need to read up on advantages and stuff. And, I'm definitely not gonna bring Light into this. He's a grass and poison type.

...you wouldn't happen to need to unload any more of your electric mice, would you? [Tentative. But yes, that's a pretty forward way of saying it.]

[Way to go, you're advising a kid seven years older than you are. Good job.]

Nah, it's okay. And I don't wanna use anyone else's Pokémon at all.

You a fan of mythology?

Perseus is a legendary hero - a demigod, I think - in Greek mythology. But I bet you already knew that.

Don't mind me, I just got curious.

Well, I guess I'll just have to keep tabs on the network again. I could also ask Ted - he was the one who gave me Jackie Spearow. No, wait, she's...a Fearow now.

[TRANSLATION: Auste's timezone. She was also probably late to Rem and Rom's brood.]

[INORITE. I should also be napping in a bit because orz hardcore studytiems again.

ALSO I POSTED WITH ADULTWORTH ON D_M IF YOU'RE INTERESTED~]

That's a start. I did tell Rise I'd see her at her cosplay café and I might train some more before actually facing Falkner, so I'll probably hang around.

MY HAIR IS JUST ABOUT DRY AND IT'S PAST 1 PM so yeah.]

Yup, cosplay. It's short for costume play. You put on costumes and act like your characters and stuff. And it's really big in Japan.

[THEY CAN BE NOT!BROS AGAIN AND YOU SHOULD ALSO SLEEP ONCE YOUR HAIR DRIES OUT.

.../drops off ahaha]

It's sorta like Halloween, yeah. But you can do it all year 'round, and I guess it's more...serious?

For example, if you're just dressin' up like a pirate for Halloween, you can just walk around in costume and get candy and that's it. But when it's cosplay, you gotta do more. You gotta walk the walk, and talk the talk, and be as pirate-y as you can be.

[/flops back onto this thread I PROMISE I'M ALIVE.]

Think of it this way - when it's Halloween, less people pick on your costume and judge how accurate it is and how you're portraying the character and stuff. That's what I mean by "more serious".

And usually for cosplay, people play...more specific characters. Like from comic books. [MAYBE IF HE DOESN'T KNOW ABOUT COSPLAY, HE PROBABLY ISN'T TOO FAMILIAR WITH ANIME? ORZ.]

[WHY U EARLY.]

Well...there are contests where you'll really, literally be judged. And some hardcore fans of characters you cosplay are gonna nitpick if they see something that's off.

No duh. Some people shell out tons of money just to make really impressive costumes they'll wear over and over again!

Me? Not really, it's not my thing.

[She laughs.] I reserve it for Halloween and parties, though.
