[He doesn't blame himself for what happened. He knows that he wouldn't have been able to do anything, because he was small and weak and powerless. He still was.

And that was what he couldn't forgive himself for being: powerless. Too weak to protect Phoenix, too weak to be able to protect his Pokémon and... probably too weak to protect his new friend, Ken, as well.

He had to get stronger, and his eyes are... glinting. With determination, but not a very positive one. He just looks grim, but purposeful. ]

Mr. von Karma intends to murder somebody innocent just for the sake of getting his revenge on me.. and I won't allow it. I won't let anybody get hurt, or die, anymore..

He nods, slowly, and stays silent, waiting for Misaki to continue.]

[Miles would never try to convince Misaki otherwise. It would be.. hypocritical, he feels. After all, even he hasn't gotten over the guilt of his own father's death.]

....I don't think there really will be an answer, Misaki.

I think the important thing is that... you don't let it take over you like I almost did.

It's so hard... Sometimes I think it would have been better if... if I had never been born. Then... then Nii-chan wouldn't have had to quit school, and our parents would be at home just like always...

[Excuse him as his frown turns deeper and he glares. Miles himself had gone through some pretty bad moments of depression. Especially since coming to Johto; finding out about his future wasn't the easiest thing... and he sometimes wished there was an alternative. Turning back time, maybe he can save his father if he knew all this back then.

But he had never -- would never -- wonder about what would have happened if he wasn't born.]

Just because were born, Misaki, does not mean that your brother was fated to stop going to school, or that your parents were doomed to die. That's just stupid -- and I think you know that better than anyone!

Saying it's hard and wishing you hadn't been born is not going to do anything to bring back your parents, Misaki.

[Yeah he's just going to-- say some pretty mean things because oh boy Misaki. Miles has been through this conversation with himself before. He knows how you feel, and while he respects your right to be confused (because it was only meeting people from his future that forced him to stop looking back), he doesn't want you living the rest of your life like this either.]

What's in the past won't ever come back, and you can't change it. The only thing you can do... the only thing we can do is to move on and find a different way to atone for what we did.
